Similar Font Finder for Figma
A free plugin for Figma Design, made by DupeFont. Select text and it shows the closest free fonts to each font in your selection, with previews in your own text. One click swaps the font in your design.
Coming soon to the Figma Community. Until then, the same matches are on this site: search a font name on the home page or upload an image.
What it's for
- Missing fonts. A file from another team uses a font you don't have. The plugin works even though Figma can't load the font, and swaps it for a free look-alike.
- Licence-safe handoff. The mock-up uses a paid font the client or developer can't license. Swap it for the closest Google Font before handoff.
- Fonts we don't know yet. If the font is installed, the plugin can match it by how it looks.
How to use it
- Select text layers, or a frame that contains text, and run Similar Font Finder from the Plugins menu.
- Each font in the selection gets its own card. Paid fonts show our closest free match first, then other similar fonts, each with a preview and its licence. Fonts that are already free say so.
- Click Swap to replace the font in every selected layer that uses it. Each weight maps to the nearest one the new font has (Semi Bold becomes Bold if there's no Semi Bold), and the swap is a single undo step.
- For a font that isn't in our catalog, click Match by appearance. The plugin sends a picture of one layer and its text, and lists the free fonts that look closest.
- Each swap leaves a small handoff note beside the frame saying which font replaced which, under which licence, and where the match came from (dupefont.com). Delete it like any layer; one Undo removes the swap and its note together.
Swaps only offer fonts that Figma can load. A suggestion that isn't in Figma's font list links to Google Fonts instead.
What it sends
- The names of the fonts in your selection, to dupefont.com, to find matches.
- Only when you click Match by appearance: a picture of the layer you pick and its text. We don't store the picture; the text is kept with the match result for 30 days.
- Usage counts (plugin opened, which font was swapped for which) with no IP address and no user or install ID, and the names of fonts we couldn't match, so we can add them.
- Previews are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address and the fonts being previewed.
Details are in our Privacy Policy. The plugin is covered by our Terms of Service.
